Jaq Jaq Bird

Grace, Founder and Creative Director, is a Korean-American mother of 3 living in Chicago.

Following fraud by the contractor hired to build their new house, the family is growing, they find themselves with a house without a functional kitchen. Meals in restaurants therefore become a necessity, the time to finish cooking. But the placemats-menus and pencils offered to children do not really interest them.

It was at this time, in 2005, that Grace invented the chalk mat, now popularly known as the Doodle It & Go erasable mat, Like the Jaq Jaq Bird mats of today, it was a design flexible and user-friendly with a placemat on one side and a chalk scribbling surface on the other.

The parents at the neighboring tables fall in love and place orders with Grace.

After a TV appearance, Grace receives even more orders. Jaq Jaq Bird was born.

Why “Jaq Jaq Bird®”?
When Grace's third child was learning to speak, he would say "Jaq Jaq" - a Korean onomatopoeia translated as "chirp."
